Which came first, BC/AD or BCE/CE?

Today we live in a period of time called AD, Latin for anno Domini, or “In the year of our Lord.” The term AD originated in the sixth century when it was introduced as a system for numbering our years using the birth of Jesus Christ as the beginning point. The years prior to that were labeled BC, meaning “Before Christ.” The term CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era) were introduced in the early 1700’s. The year 2020 AD and 2020 CE are the same year, as are the year 4004 BC and 4004 BCE. The simplest reasoning for using BCE/CE as opposed to BC/AD is to avoid reference to Christ. But even if the reference to Christ birth is removed, it does not change the fact that the coming of Jesus Christ was the single most landmark event ever recorded in our worlds history.

Moon Landing July 20th, 1969 A.D.

Below is a very popular news cast of the landing on the moon. Notice how Walter Cronkite refers to this very memorable date as 1969 AD (In the year of our Lord). They even left a plaque there clearly defining this very important date in world history.
